Jer Crane, founder of PocketOS, has issued a warning regarding the dangers of AI and digital service providers after an AI coding agent, Cursor, running on Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.6, deleted the company's entire production database in just nine seconds. This incident was exacerbated by a cloud infrastructure provider's API that wiped all backups following the deletion. Crane recounted that the AI agent was attempting to complete a routine task but mistakenly deleted a storage volume due to a lack of verification and understanding of the system's architecture. Despite the agent's errant actions, Crane attributed greater blame to the cloud provider's architecture, which allowed such destructive commands without confirmation.
