The Tesla Semi has officially entered production, marking a significant milestone in electric trucking nearly a decade after its initial announcement in 2017. Recently, Tesla released photos of the first vehicle off its production line, alongside final battery specifications and pricing. The Class 8 Semi aims to address the pollution caused by medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, which, despite representing only 8% of vehicles on the road, account for 35% of carbon dioxide emissions in road transport. Notably, WattEV has placed an order for 370 Tesla Semis, committing over $100 million for the fleet, which is expected to be supported by charging infrastructure in California. With its production capacity now operational, the Tesla Semi could play a crucial role in transforming the electric vehicle market for commercial transportation.
