Anthropic's Project Glasswing Uncovers Over 10,000 Critical Vulnerabilities in a Month
Anthropic's Project Glasswing has identified more than 10,000 critical vulnerabilities across 1,000 open-source projects since its launch one month ago, with only 97 patches implemented. The initiative, utilizing the Claude Mythos Preview model, validated 1,726 of these as true positives, including 1,094 high- or critical-severity flaws. The disparity between discovered vulnerabilities and successful patches highlights a significant cybersecurity challenge, prompting Anthropic to call for quicker patch cycles from developers. Among the critical findings is a severe flaw in WolfSSL, a widely used embedded TLS library, posing risks in various sectors, including IoT and automotive systems. The project operates under a restricted partnership model with about 50 key cybersecurity organizations accessing the Claude Mythos Preview, which has been praised for its superior capability in vulnerability detection and analysis.
