Chinese AI Model GLM-5.2 Surpasses Competitors in Intelligence Rankings at a Fraction of the Cost
The Chinese startup Z.ai has launched its AI model GLM-5.2, which has secured the fourth position in the Intelligence Index v4.1, competing closely with leading American models from Anthropic and OpenAI. Priced significantly lower than its competitors, GLM-5.2 charges $1.40 per million input tokens and $4.40 per million output tokens, making it a more affordable option. Analysts, including former White House AI czar David Sacks, claim that GLM-5.2 performs comparably to models like OpenAI's GPT-5.5. Notably, GLM-5.2 was developed using domestic Chinese silicon, utilizing Huawei processors, thereby circumventing U.S. chip restrictions. Additionally, the model's weights are available under an unrestricted MIT license, enhancing its accessibility for further development.
