Global venture funding reached $56 billion in April, marking the third-largest monthly funding total in a year and a 100% increase from $26 billion year-over-year. This surge was significantly propelled by substantial funding rounds for AI lab Anthropic, which raised $15 billion, and Jeff Bezos's Project Prometheus, which secured $10 billion. These two entities alone accounted for 45% of the venture capital in April. Additional notable funding included billion-dollar rounds for Swedish green steel producer Stegra and AI data operations provider Vast Data. AI investments dominated the landscape, with $37 billion allocated to artificial intelligence, constituting 66% of global venture investment for the month, driven largely by significant capital for AI model companies. The U.S. led the charge, raising approximately 70% of global venture capital, reflecting a continued robust interest in AI across various sectors and its positive impact on GDP growth.
